Spring 2012 Wedding Gown Trend

For Spring 2012 wedding gown trends, we saw lots of unique necklines for wedding gowns but “most spotted” goes to the illusion style wedding gown, in which a sheer, delicate, and often embellished layer of fabric veils skin that would otherwise be exposed. One particular feature of the Spring 2012 wedding gown collections is the horsehair — it’s a synthetic fabric often used on the underskirts of gowns to create a cleaner shape and a crisper hemline. Continuing with the trend of turning dresses, and in this case wedding gowns, inside-out, designers are now exposing this underlay fabrication, either as a visible hemline treatment or a lavishly looped sash or bodice detail. It works to create incredible volume and dimension on ballgowns and also provides a unique, frothy-yet-modern textural element.

Vera Wang’s latest collection featured wedding gowns in an array of colors, including celadon, charcoal gray, and several styles in a soft, creamy taupe color. The intricate accordion pleats of the gown flare out like a sunburst as the wedding gown moves—so lovely. And the dramatic ballgown features an asymmetrical peplum—a big trend this season—accented with a soft, oversize fabric flower.
